Attention all environmental advocates! The 2023 Pakman Awards, Ireland’s National Environmental Awards are now open. Each year, these prestigious awards celebrate and recognise excellence in recycling and waste management across organisations, businesses, community groups and, for the first time, individuals in Ireland. Entries are open now, click here to enter, entries close on 31st August 2023.
Now in its 9th year, The Pakman Awards are recognised as one of the most prestigious accolades in the environmental sector for organisations and community groups who demonstrate their sustainability and environmental efforts.
New Category
This year we have added a new category: The ESG Leader. Other award categories include the Overall Pakman Award, which was won last year by Limerick Polymers Production for its best-in-class waste recovery and efforts to create a truly circular economy for plastic packaging. Other highly contested awards include the Community Recycling Initiative Award, Waste Prevention Award, and Business Recycling Champion Award.
Category entrants are invited to submit examples of their environmental efforts from the past twelve months, with details of all categories available here. Winners will be announced at this year’s award ceremony, which will be held on the 26th October 2023 at The Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin.
Speaking on the launch of the 2023 Pakman Awards, Minister of State with responsibility for Public Procurement, eGoverment, Communications and the Circular Economy, Ossian Smyth TD, said:
“As the move towards a more sustainable, circular economy gathers pace, it is right that we take the time to recognise those whose hard work and innovation in the areas of awareness, resource efficiency, and corporate responsibility, deliver benefits across society. The Pakman Awards celebrate the achievements of circular economy and environmental champions, from companies to communities and individuals, and not only raise awareness around the importance of transformation in how we manage our resources but help showcase best practice in leading that transformation.”
Séamus Clancy, CEO of Repak added:
“With the introduction of the ESG Leader in the Pakman Awards, the expansion now allows individual people within our 3,400 Membership group to showcase their efforts. The ESG category acknowledges and emphasises the importance of environmental sustainability, social responsibility and effective governance in waste management practices. By recognising these aspects, The Pakman Awards aims to highlight the broader impact of recycling and waste management beyond environmental considerations.
With nominations now open for the 2023 Pakman Awards, we would encourage all organisations, businesses, community groups and individuals to share efforts they have made and enter this years’ awards. Every year, we continue to be impressed by the environmental enhancements being made and this year will be no exception. We want to showcase the work of everyone who gets involved in innovative and creative ways to recycle and manage waste. We’re excited to see what this years’ award entries bring and the hard work that goes into ensuring Ireland is on the road to a more sustainable future.”
